We’ve had a slow start to summer in Boulder this year: cooler weather with more afternoon thunderstorms than typical means the foothills are still a lush green, and my garden has needed only occasional supplemental watering.
Summertime feels like one long, relaxing flow, a celebration of unfolding, blossoming, growth, life. The longer days beckon me outdoors to play, to luxuriate in the sensations of the season.
Here are a few things I love about summer:
- swimming at the Boulder Reservoir
- farmer’s market
- my herb garden
- dining al fresco
- summer evenings with friends
- outdoor parties
- street fairs
- water fun

My summer loves:
– watching my dog roll around outside, happy as can be
– swimming at dawn in the outdoor pool
– Knitting outdoors with friends and a cool drink
– Harvesting my first tomatoes (and the 2nd, and the third)
– Blueberry picking
Berry picking is a good one! I was spoiled forever by the taste of fresh, ripe strawberries when I picked them in high school as a summer job.
Wearing and seeing beautiful summer dresses
drinking smoothies for breakfast
barbeque
smell of cut grass
